Zurich based Label Kumquat, known for releasing quality progressive tracks, among them some of the hottest tracks by Andre Absolut, is launching an EP and digital download from Khainz, the side project of Swiss producer Simon Schwendener.
Schwendener is mostly known for being the man behind the full-on project Freakulizer, who released in 2005 an artist album at Shane Gobi’s Alchemy rec. Khainz’s recent debut in Progressive comprised two tracks released at the respected labels of Plusquam (in Zombi’s compilation ‘on the decks with’) and of Blue Tunes (in Mapusa Mapusa’s compilation titled ‘Electro inside’), both of them released earlier this spring. The fact that Kumquat is releasing the follow up attracts critical attention.
1. Trittbrett starts slowly in an electro mood, until some fat distorted leads with elongated intervals, punctuated by spooky German vocal snippets, spice up the tone of the track. The middle section features twisted breaks and fx, and launches an interesting series of ascending and descending droplets until some beater sweet soothing chords closes the tune. We have here a nice and original dancefloor tool that will titillate the curiosity of electro fans.
2. Doppel eben features deep large reverberated pads in the intro soon followed by a solemn break that highlights the reentry of the electro stabs overlaying discreet percussions. It is less sophisticated than the first installment, but still has an interesting construction that will thrive in the early progression of a set.
